Children with disabilities and/or behavioral health challenges are 3x more likely to experience familial maltreatment due to parent stressors

Robeson Parent 2 Parents team members share their vision

The Robeson County Parent 2 Parent Project (Robeson County P2P) will provide Family Mentor trainings to parents and caregivers who have navigated systems in Robeson County to find supports for their children with disabilities or special healthcare needs. Robeson County P2P provides families and service providers in Robeson County with trainings, workshops, and health literacy events. This allows parents with lived experience and knowledge of their community to mentor and guide young parents through the same experiences and barriers they faced with caring connections and emotional support.

Building a stronger local support community for families supporting children with developmental disabilities, behavioral health challenges, and special health care needs

Proposed Aims:

  • Build the capacity of parents and service providers supporting children with developmental disabilities, behavioral health challenges and special health care needs.
  • Parents, CDSA, and Robeson County DHHS will feel that they have more resources and confidence in supporting one another and working together for the good of the identified families.
